A report from US-based Credence Research pegged the Chatbot market at $88.3 million in 2015 and they predict, the market would witness “exponential growth” in 2016-23.

These days, most of us download an app for meeting any need. A chatbot is essentially an artificial intelligence tool built into a chat platform, wherein one can simply chat with a computer to get things done -be it ordering food or avail cab hiring service.

In April this year, when Facebook opened up its Messenger platform to build and run chatbots, it became a hit among developers. Many Indian app developers say they got their bots up and running within a week or two.Purplle, Newsbytes, Haptik, Jugnoo, Lybrate are some of the popular Indian ChatBots that’s up and running today. Startups like Jugnoo and Haptik use a combination of human and bot interaction to make sure the customer gets the best answer. Saurabh Arora already gets 500 to 1,000 queries a day on his health app Lybrate’s chatbot. “Big companies like Apple or Facebook have the resources to make a platform for artificial intelligence. Smaller developers can take advantage of those platforms to build their own products, as is happening with Messenger bots right now,” says Arora.
