Dynamics 365 introduces a new set of business rules which functions similar to the old version, but with a different and enhanced outlook. When we select business rules from the form of an entity, the following window appears.
As you had previously seen in Microsoft Dynamics CRM, the provision for entering the name and description for the business rule can be found here. On the right side, you can see two tabs namely ‘Components’ and ’Properties’.
Components tab:
The components tab includes Flow and Actions.
Flow: Flow means conditional statements which have two paths – true and false.
Action: Action includes Recommendation, Lock/Unlock, Show Error Message, and similar features.
The components can be dragged as per your requirements to form a pictorial representation of what is needed. Once the required components are dragged down, you can add specific actions to it by clicking on the corresponding components. On selecting the ‘Condition’, a form appears on the right side which can be given a name and the Source, Field, Operator, Type and Value can also be selected. The text view of the conditional statement is visible in the Conditional Expression box below. Click on ‘Apply’ to save the condition or ‘Discard’ to discard it. More conditions can be added by clicking on ‘New’ and by applying rule logic AND or OR.
Similarly, to add an action, drag and place it in the required position. Then click on it and add the steps to fulfil the action, and click on ‘Apply’. You can take a snapshot of the pictorial representation using the ‘Snapshot’ option on the top.
Another new feature is the ‘Validate’ button on the top which can validate your business rules. Clicking on “Validate” helps in detecting errors. If there is any error, it will be displayed below the Description box.
