November 15, 2015, was one memorable day for Team Suyati. All the hard work we had put in over the past month paid off…in spades. The result was more than what we could have asked for! Our long hours of dedicated training resulted in us achieving the 1st, 3rd, 4th & 6th positions in the Spice Coast Marathon organized by Soles of Cochin and promoted by the District Tourism Promotion Council.
The highly anticipated race was flagged off at 4:00 am from the KK Premachandran Sports Complex, Willingdon Island, Kochi. It was a charged atmosphere where participants from all walks of life could be seen. The camaraderie among them only added to the excitement. Some of them had travelled extensively to make it to the event.
There was a full marathon of 42.2 km, half marathon of 21.1 km, and a family run of 5 km.
The marathon took the participants through the streets of old Kochi, covering many historical landmarks, which also included locations of the Muziris. So, while enjoying the warm Kochi climate, the runners also got to see some of the sights that Kochi is famous for. The race was designed in such a way that a full marathon runner would have a tryst with at least one landmark in every kilometer covered.
