Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees – BKS Iyengar
You need to be from outer space if you have not heard about Yoga! Ever since the UN declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2015, it has been celebrated increasingly by people all over the world. And the reasons are plenty – yoga has been proven to improve cardiovascular health, and reduce chronic muscular aches, stress, depression, and a wide range of diseases and disorders as observed by scientists.
As part of International Yoga Day, Suyati conducted a Yoga session in association with Isha Foundation, a non-profit organization. The session was aimed at laying a foundation of the basics of yoga – right from what is yoga, how does it help, and why it should be a part of our lives. Dipu Surendran, our in-house Isha Yoga practitioner, walked us through video tutorials and introduced “Upa Yoga” – a series of seven practices that can be done by anyone, at any time, leading to the holistic well-being of an individual.
More on Upa Yoga, including the 7 simple practices that can get you started can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjGF2MLdIz8&t=159s
Yoga is a way to invest in our own wellbeing. We need to practice it daily, and believe that it will help us grow. That’s the lesson we learnt during this session. So here’s to a healthy year filled with yoga and well-being, from all of us at Suyati.
